Beginner’s Guide to Nail Art

Even if you do your nails at home, that does not mean you can’t have a long lasting manicure or beautiful nail art designs. However, if you don’t have a lot of experience, there are some nail art designs you can try by yourself. We found a lot of inspiring nail designs on checkmynails.com and we narrowed down the most simple ones.

Accent nail

You can start by painting the nails in one color, except one nail which can be painted in a different color or pattern. It is a trend that the celebrities have adopted and you can use it too.

Flowers

You can also create flowers on nails if you follow these steps:
Take a nail polish that you want to be the center of your flower and apply a small drop on a piece of paper.
Dip the tip of the toothpick in the polish on the paper and make a small dot on the nail (where you want to position the flower), making sure to leave enough space for petals.
Choose a different shade of nail polish and put a drop on a piece of paper. Use the other end of the toothpick, dip it into the second shade and apply a small point next to each other. Repeat until your flower is complete.

Heart

Apply a light pink nail polish over the entire nail. Let it dry.
On a piece of paper put a drop of red nail polish and dip the tip of the toothpick. Use the toothpick tip to draw a little heart. It is up to you if you want to fill it or leave it like that
Then apply a drop of nail polish on white paper and soak the other end of the toothpick. The entire nail surface, avoiding the little heart, draw some small points far apart.

Ombre

Opt for pastel shades and simple and delicate designs. Choose an ombre manicure for a typical day at the office or for a night out. Add a drop of glitter on top of the nail in a darker shade than the tip, finish with a top coat and you’re ready to go!

Tips on how to have a long lasting manicure

When you do your nail art at home, one of the most important issues is that nail polish “breaks” very quickly and the step must be repeated after one or two days. If you want to have a durable manicure, the nail polish and the quality matters, but also how you apply the polish. Here’s some tricks you can try.
– Do not keep your nails in water before you do your nails. The water softens the nail and the polish comes off easier.
– Use a buffer to completely remove old polish
– Wipe your nails with acetone to remove any excess oil
– Apply a base, then apply nail polish in two or more thin layers – it’s better than applying one thick layer
– Do not shake the bottle of nail polish before use
– Finally, apply a top coat
Tip: glitter polish or the very shimmery lasts more than matte polish. If you have a pink polish, almost transparent, but very shimmer, apply it instead of a topcoat and the manicure will last more.
