Authentic decor versus sustainable decor

Tres Agaves restaurant, San Francisco

I tried to find out info on their website about where they may have purchased their decor -- the chairs, the bar, the giant lantern, the tables, etc. -- but they didn't have that on their site.  I'll have to ask next time b/c I'm curious.  And I wonder if it would have been better (more green?) to decorate this space with sustainable furniture that came from within our Bay Area or would it have been authentic (as they strive to be with their tequila) to get these items from Mexico and their artisans?

Linoleum is made from natural ingredients. Linseed oil is obtained by pressing flaxseed, and it is dried and ground into a powdery binder. Then it is combined with limestone, which is extremely abundant, pine rosin, and cork and wood flours to form the material to which color is added.

Natural linoleum is available in tiles and sheets. It can be used in flooring as well as for countertop applications. It may be installed using adhesives. Make sure you use an adhesive that is solvent-free.

Some of the advantages are: made of natural Ingredients, off-gassing from natural oils, renewable and biodegradable, and durable and self-healing. It is a great product, and you should consider next time you need a flooring and/or countertops product.

When it's time to get rid of that old sofa or massive CRT monitor, call Sausalito-based iReuse, who will arrange to haul it away and donate it -- or help you find a buyer.  ireuse.com

Click on the Reuse Center on the right of the page to either, Get Stuff or Get Rid of Stuff.  I tried clicking on Get Stuff and there wasn't much of an inventory at this time.

Rug is a kind of floor covering, and most of the times, it is also a great way to protect the floor. They are part of our interior spaces, and we need to make sure they are sustainable.

Look for rugs that are made from all natural fibers like: wool, silk, jute coir, sisal, sea-grass, and cotton. You can also try to find rugs made with recycled material. (“rags”) These materials biodegrade easily and are good for you and the environment. Make sure it has natural dyes or no dye at all.

I was at Target this weekend picking up a few things in the garden section and noticed this Adirondack with a big honkin FSC tag...

Could it really be? Yes, in fact they even included the FSC certificate number.. I am sure Target's practices don't match up to some of the manuf. we have on our site, but I have to applaud them to bringing green mainstream and making it beautiful, affordable and easy.
