You don't have to sacrifice style to be kinder to the environment, and a model condominium designed by Thom Filicia is a perfect example of this. He uses green materials, fabrics and finishes throughout this comfortably appointed home, but you wouldn't know it unless he told you.

I love the beautiful dresser by Aponwao Design he used, which is made out of salvaged picture frames!

I love Farrow & Ball paint! Their color palette is amazing and the colors are so saturated that even a simple cream seems to give depth and texture to the wall. They recently introduced zero VOC paints to their collection, which you can read about here - A Greener View from Farrow & Ball .

If you are unfamiliar with their colors and product line, you can order a free brochure and colour card here - Catologue Request .

Time to Sparkle for the Holidays

It’s that time of year again. Holiday time. What does this mean?  Lots of entertaining. You may find yourself looking around the house and seeing things in a new light - the pile of magazines that have been sitting by the front door for ages, the marks on the wall from where the cat likes to scratch, the tired looking throw pillows on the sofa. To get your house company ready, I recommend a program of de-cluttering, cleaning and redecorating – all without spending a dime!

UNCLUTTER

Assess the clutter. Oftentimes rooms can look awful because there is a hodgepodge of accessories, candles, magazines, pillows etc. on every surface and in every nook and cranny of the room. Take everything out, even if you know you’re going to end up putting it back in. Do this in every room of the house, all at the same time. Dig out any candlesticks, vases, etc. you have stored. Put everything in a spare room while you proceed to the next step.

I'm working on a longer blog post, but I saw these in the new CB2 catalog and thought they were interesting! They're made of a new material that is biodegradable, plus they're clean and modern looking.

The Eco-Friendly Style of Mad Men

It may seem jarring to see the term “eco-friendly” in the same sentence as “Mad Men,” a television show that depicts the period of shameless wastefulness of the early 1960s. Gas guzzling cars, polyester and littering have all been featured on this show, but don’t worry, I’m not as good as Don Draper and am not about to convince you that this era was anything but decadent and destructive. What I do want to discuss is the amazing style featured on the show and how you can easily bring that into your home in a green and eco-friendly manner.
