I always have a hard time keeping the carpet at my house clean, but I know the importance of it in order to help maintain a good indoor air quality.  Dust and toxins settle in you carpet affecting the quality of the carpet and the indoor air. The secret is to keep the carpet clean and dry as well as  vacuuming thoroughly at least once a week with a HEPA- filtered model. Avoid stain treatments that probably will out gas harmful contaminants. Since I am always trying to maintain my carpet clean, I decided to research Eco- friendly ways to keep it clean. Here are my findings:

  1. Try to use club soda or a tiny amount of soap mixed with water to remove stains. Sponge up and then rinse with water.
  2. For big spills, you can use cornstarch. You can place it on the stain and wait for 5 to 10 minutes and then vacuum afterwards.
  3. You can also try a homemade mix of water and vinegar. The mix can be sprayed in combination with a warm soapy water.
  4. Big and hard stains might need a overnight treatment with a homemade mix of salt, borax and vinegar, which can be vacuumed next day.
  5. You can also use baking soda or cornstarch for odor removal. Sprinkle it on your carpet and then vacuum after a few minutes.
These are great ways to help you keep your house clean not affecting the indoor air quality of your place!!!
