What if I told you that you could have a stylish, one-of-a-kind welcome mat custom-made in Maine for your front porch or back door walkway?  What if I told you that doormat also saves whales?

It's true!

Where do wine barrels go at the end of their lifespan?  People have been using reclaimed wine barrel wood for years, but not in such a stylish way - as a tabletop or bartop lazy server.

Chris Deffenbaugh from Wooster, Ohio hand-refurbishes each 22-inch oak barrel top, preserving the original wine maker’s markings and all the colorful, textured evidence of the barrelhead’s previous life.

Wal-Mart goes Sustainable?

Breaking news:  EDF (Environmental Defense Fund) approached corporate giant Wal-Mart about greening their supply chain.  The results could be healthier indoor environments for many of us, plus a better world overall.  Read about this massive change here.

I want to highlight that EDF approached Wal-Mart, not the other way around, so ignore the doubters in the article comments.  Now if we can just get them to do something about the environmental impact of their stores (reduce energy use, permeable paving, sustainable building practices, etc) ....

Cardboard Playsets & Furniture

I don't know about you, but MY favorite childhood memories involve toys that were creative, used imagination, and allowed for multiple uses in a variety of ways.  Now you can combat the explosion of static, unimaginative plastic toys with sustainable cardboard kits that are easy to use, kid-friendly and eco-friendly!

CardboardDesign uses 100% recycled cardboard sourced in the USA that is much thicker than standard shipping boxes to make their fun play sets so they hold up to kid-play.  No glue, tape or other fasteners are used, only a tab and slot system that allows playsets to be reconfigured and reused again and again.  They are completely chemical-free as well.
